The World Government Summit Foundation, in partnership with the Permanent Mission of the UAE to the United Nations and the Federal Center for Competitiveness and Statistics, held a "remote" meeting entitled "Promoting the Global Acceleration of the Sustainable Development Goals", coinciding with the opening of the United Nations General Assembly's 76th ordinary session.

The meeting witnessed the launch of the second session of the Global Councils for Sustainable Development Goals 2021-2023, a number of which are chaired by ministers and officials in the UAE.

Minister of State for International Cooperation and Chairperson of the National Committee for Sustainable Development Goals, Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashimi, confirmed that the second session of the global councils will move from focusing on one goal for each council to a comprehensive and integrated model that supports the councils' work to promote and accelerate the implementation of the goals.

She added: "I look forward to welcoming the global councils at (Expo 2020 Dubai) next January, where we will celebrate the official launch of the councils and their work programmes, but before that there is still a lot to do, the world is watching and waiting and we must all succeed."

Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, Director of the World Government Summit Foundation, stressed that achieving the global sustainable development goals is a focus of the directions of the UAE government, and a permanent file on the agenda of the World Summit of Governments, which has been keen since its launch to support international efforts and provide an open platform. For everyone to cooperate, consult and develop initiatives and solutions to achieve the global sustainable development goals.

The Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for Political Affairs, Permanent Representative of the UAE, Lana Nusseibeh, said: "We have less than 10 years to achieve the goals we set for ourselves within the sustainable development goals, and the agenda of the sustainable development goals represents our blueprint for sustainable recovery from the pandemic, and we need everyone to unite to achieve this." ».

The Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Suhail bin Muhammad Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei, stressed that achieving the sustainable development goals is a shared responsibility that requires a clear approach from those concerned to overcome the challenges facing cities and human societies.

Vice-President of the Emirates Council for Gender Balance Mona Ghanem Al Marri said that the initiative of the Global Councils for Sustainable Development Goals in its second session is interesting, as it will support gender balance through the linkages work model, which will bring together leaders from different fields to define different challenges, noting that strengthening Gender balance must be a local and global priority.

Dr. Manal Taryam, Executive Director and Member of the Board of Trustees of Noor Dubai Foundation, stressed that ensuring access to quality health care is an essential pillar to enhance the well-being of societies in all aspects of daily life, including access to education.
