The Taliban have been targeted in Jalalabad, the large city in eastern Afghanistan.

At least two people were killed and 19 injured on Saturday, September 18, in several bombings.

These are the first deadly attacks recorded since the departure of the last American troops from the country on August 30, after twenty years of military presence.

At least two bombs targeted vehicles of the Taliban security forces, according to corroborating sources.

An official from the Nangarhar health department, of which Jalalabad is the capital, reported three dead and 18 injured.

Several local media, for their part, indicated that the attacks had left at least two dead and 19 injured.

A photo taken on the spot and obtained by AFP showed a green police pickup truck, topped with the white Taliban flag, stationary, its hood twisted and almost upright, amid various debris.

Jalalabad is the capital of Nangarhar, the main focus of rebels from the Islamic State in Afghanistan (IS-K) organization, rivals of the Taliban who claimed responsibility for the bloody attack killing more than 100 people at Kabul airport in late August.

The Taliban returned to power in mid-August, following the withdrawal of US forces and the collapse of the government they supported.

They notably promised to restore peace and security, believing that the end of the Western military presence would make it possible to put an end to the violence that has been tearing the country apart for decades.
