The park, which is centrally located by the Klarälven river, and its dramatic history with a sunken nightclub boat that took months to salvage, has engaged many - both politicians and civilians in Värmland.
After the boat was taken up, the proposal came to temporarily build a sandy beach in the area, an idea that will continue to be a reality in the new vision that will have been realized and be ready by the summer of 2022.
Cost: SEK 5 million
The refurbishment of the park is expected to cost just over SEK 5 million.
- It is well-invested money.
We are in the Karlstad residents' living room and it must cost if it is to be good, says Erik Nilsson (KD), municipal councilor.
The large shopping centers attract a lot of people and several premises are empty in the center, is it worth investing in a park if this is not where people move?
- This is exactly what we are going to do.
The municipality will not run business premises, we will create meeting places and areas for people to go into the center, says Erik Nilsson (KD).
His hope is that the investment in the park together with the refurbishment outside Stadshotellet and Sandgrundsudden will make people want to enter the city center.
- Hang out here for a while, have lunch and shop a bit in the shops.
