The Saudi-Emirati coalition announced - on Thursday evening - the interception and destruction of a ballistic missile and 4 drones launched by the Houthis towards Saudi Arabia.

A statement issued by the coalition, published by the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA), confirmed that a ballistic missile launched by the Houthi militia targeting civilians and civilian objects in Jizan, southwest of the Kingdom, was intercepted and destroyed.

He added that a total of 4 booby-trapped drones launched by the Houthi militia towards Jazan were also intercepted and destroyed.

The coalition affirmed that it has taken operational measures to protect civilians and civilian objects, in accordance with international humanitarian law.

The Houthis used to launch ballistic missiles and drones at Saudi regions, in exchange for repeated announcements by the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen to thwart these attacks, some of which left civilian casualties.

Yemen has been witnessing a war for nearly 7 years that has killed more than 233,000 people, and 80% of the population - numbering about 30 million people - has become dependent on support and aid, in the worst humanitarian crisis in the world, according to the United Nations.

The conflict has had regional spillovers since March 2015, as a coalition led by neighboring Saudi Arabia has been carrying out military operations in support of government forces in the face of the Iranian-backed Houthis, who have controlled several governorates, including the capital, Sanaa, since 2014.
