Sunday is the big day for the church election, when members of the Church of Sweden will vote for the board of the local church council, the regional diocesan council and the national church council.

Can approach 30 percent

When more parties on the right wing stand in the election, it will probably lead to higher turnout, it was already seen in the last election where turnout increased from 12 percent to 19 percent.

This year, it will probably be higher than 20 percent and maybe even up to 30 percent, believes Marco Nilsson, who is a senior lecturer in political science at Jönköping University.

- It sounds good for democracy, but if it is due to increased polarization, it is not necessarily so good.

The church is based on an idea of community and not polarization, he says.
