The former property owner, a male doctor from the West Coast, has recently sold the plot to two men who have long been interested in the property.

One is 53 years old and the other is 58 years old.

- Marhult is central for trucks, and therefore it is attractive, the 58-year-old tells SVT.

The 58-year-old has previously worked for one of the companies that had a permit to use the site for waste management.

Now he plans to, together with his partner, transform the old sawmill site into an industrial park.

But first they have to get rid of 32,000 tons of garbage.

- We have started to formulate environmental applications to get permission to remove the garbage, says the 58-year-old.

"No obligation to clean"

After a lengthy process, Uppvidinge municipality received this year in the Land and Environmental Court that the previous property owner could be held liable for not having taken sufficient protective measures for the ongoing operations on the site.

Now the property suddenly changes owners - and the question then is whether the new owners have a responsibility to clean up the area.

- We have no obligation to actually clean, but we want to access the plot, says the 58-year-old.

The rubbish heap itself is currently part of an investigation into a serious environmental crime, where prosecution is expected in the autumn.

SVT Småland is looking for Uppvidinge municipality for a comment.
