Pele, 80, "is recovering well" at the hospital where he was operated on in early September, his daughter said on Instagram on Friday to reassure fans after several media reported that the football legend had returned to intensive care.

"This is the normal recovery scenario for a man his age. After an operation like this, sometimes you take two steps forward, one step back. Yesterday he was tired and he took a step back. Today, he has taken two steps forward, "wrote Kely Nascimento, without however denying that his father was able to return to the intensive care unit.

"He is recovering well, in normal conditions, it is promised!", She insisted in this message illustrated with a photo of her next to Pelé all smiles, wearing a black sleeveless down jacket , at Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo where he was admitted on August 31.

"This photo was taken instantly. He is wearing a down jacket because he is from Santos (a seaside resort near Sao Paulo) and the cold of Sao Paulo bothers him," joked the daughter of the "King" of football. .

“There is a lot of angst in the world these days and we don't want to add to it,” she wrote.

The hospital has not published a health bulletin since September 14, the day Pelé was released from intensive care.

Pelé underwent surgery on September 4 for a "suspicious" colon tumor, discovered during routine examinations.

The TV Record channel assured Friday that Pelé had to return to the intensive care unit where he had been treated for ten days, because of a "larynx problem".

The ESPN Brasil channel for its part indicated that the former footballer's state of health was "stable", but that he had to return to intensive care as a precaution, after suffering from gastric "reflux".

The health of the one many consider the greatest footballer of all time has been fragile in recent years, with several hospitalizations.

The last dates back to April 2019, in Paris, due to a severe urinary tract infection.

Back in Brazil, he had a kidney stone removed.
