The Commission for Academic Accreditation in the Ministry of Education has set several requirements for higher education institutions to obtain academic accreditation, whether institutional accreditation or accreditation for one of the disciplines or programs, to ensure the achievement of the quality of the educational process in it, with the aim of graduating qualified cadres to meet the needs of the labor market, and to support the Ministry’s strategy that targets Achieving advanced educational ranks in competitiveness and international rankings, noting that about 25% of universities in the UAE have international accreditation at the institutional level, and more than 50% of the programs have obtained international accreditation.

The Higher Education Adviser and Director of the Academic Accreditation Commission, Dr. Muhammad Yousef Baniyas, told «Emirates Today» that the commission uses two procedures for accreditation, one at the institution level, and the other at the level of accreditation of academic programs or specializations, adding that the external evaluation teams are competent to consider requests Accreditation focuses on the requesting institutions of higher education fulfilling several requirements in order to obtain institutional academic accreditation. These requirements include governance, quality assurance, health and safety, financial resources, compliance with the law and public disclosure.

He stated that the requirement of scientific research is considered according to the nature of the institution, as it falls within the basic requirements if the institution is an educational research institution, and as for applied higher education institutions, scientific research is not among the basic requirements for obtaining academic accreditation.

He added that the Commission takes into account the international accreditations obtained by the higher education institution, whether at the institution level or at the level of programs, when evaluating the institutional and program accreditation, noting that about 25% of universities in the UAE have international accreditations at the institutional level and more than 50% of the programs have obtained international accreditation.

He pointed out that the Commission applies several new requirements when evaluating the institution to obtain program accreditation, including "practical training", which has become mandatory for all disciplines, even for students of humanities, such as the Arabic language, where the student can be trained in teaching, journalism or others, and universities were allowed By entering a major and a major, so that the student studies a major major such as mathematics in four years, and studies one semester in accounting or information technology, and then graduates with sufficient knowledge that qualifies him to work in different jobs, and this does not entail increasing the years of study, because studying the two majors is Synchronized.

And he indicated that it is possible to refuse to renew the accreditation of the programs, or to suspend it for a year, or reduce the number of students who are accepted into it, if the university was asked to provide data related to the labor market and the employment of graduates of this specialization, and it did not achieve this, pointing out that the Ministry encourages scientific and technical specializations, Including the data, technical and engineering specializations, with a focus on accounting, translation, nursing and medical sciences, which graduated as a specialist in these fields.
