The death must have taken place on 3 September and on 7 September the man was brought in for questioning.

He was subsequently arrested and detained on September 10 by Borås District Court, on the lower level of suspicion "reasonably suspected" of murder.

An area around the man's home was then cordoned off.

Frozen membership

The man had several heavy positions of trust for the Sweden Democrats, but the party froze his membership when they became aware of the suspicions.

"The party follows developments closely and will act in accordance with our internal rules of procedure," commented SD's press secretary Ludvig Grufman in an email to SVT last week.

The man denies the crime.
