Last autumn, several reports were received about the species in the county.

In total, it is now reported in five different places in Norrköping municipality.

- We will focus on fighting the black-headed snail in Krokek, where we conducted the survey last autumn.

In addition, we will carry out inspection visits to a selection of operators to see if we can find the source of the spread, says Åsa Leuhusen, coordinator for the County Administrative Board of Östergötland's work with invasive alien species in a press release.

Negatively affects

The species does not originally belong in Sweden and it is estimated that the snail spreads quickly and that it can affect biodiversity in a negative way.

- Since the discovery in the autumn of 2020, we have learned more about the biology of the black-headed snail.

Only the eggs survive the winter and it probably only lays eggs once a season.

By fighting the species before it has time to lay eggs, we should be able to reduce the number significantly for next season, says Åsa Leuhusen.

SVT Nyheter Öst was with last autumn when the county administrative board hunted the snail in Krokek.
