16 September 2021 The workers of the Naples Whirlpool arrived in Rome. On the faces the tiredness of over two years of protests, in an attempt to prevent the decommissioning of the East Naples site, the last industrial garrison of the district. The multinational has confirmed, on more than one occasion, that there will be layoffs and the factory will be closed.

The start of layoffs for the approximately 350 workers specialized in the production of high-end washing machines is getting closer and closer. But with the strength that has distinguished them from the beginning, in May 2019, even today they met before dawn, in the factory, to go to the capital to the headquarters of the Ministry of Economic Development and organize a garrison. They have tents with them that they intend to set up in front of the Mise.

"We are Italy that resists, we will not stop - say the workers - We are Italy that resists the arrogance of multinationals and we will not stop until the dismissal is withdrawn and a concrete solution is found to save this plant. We fight for our families and for all the workers who are in the same conditions as us ".

"Three governments have passed and no one has done anything - says a worker, who wears the T-shirt symbol of the dispute 'Whirlpool Napoli does not give up' - You feel abandoned to yourself, you ask yourself: 'But where is the State? to fight ". Vincenzo Accurso is the face of the protest, on the front line from the beginning, never backing down. "We expect the government to stop the multinational, make it think and find a solution for us who have been fighting for over two years against the multinational's arrogance. The weight of the struggle is felt as the days pass, but we do not give up" , He says. In recent days the workers had appealed directly to the Head of State. In fact, in an open letter, they asked for "direct interest"of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella to the story of the site in via Argine.

The workers belonging to Fim Fiom and Uilm will parade from Piazza dei Cinquecento (Termini Station) to the Mise headquarters. A sort of 'self-convening' that organized today by the trade unions wanted to put pressure on the Mise to reopen the bilateral discussion table and details the technology hub project that seems to be able to take off for the Naples area. "The Mise cannot continue to procrastinate, but it must finally illustrate a solution that guarantees the recovery of production in the plant in via Argine", Uilm repeats. But not only that. at the same time, the discussion relating to the collective dismissal procedure will continue, one step away from its conclusion scheduled for next 29 September;75 days after the sending of the formalization of the dismissal which took place on 14 July last. A table, this, still warns Fiom, which must not be only "merely technical": the workers of Naples in fact "will not accept the absence of answers", says Rosario Rappa, general secretary of Fiom-Cgil Napoli.
