The German police arrested several people the day after a threat of attack against a synagogue in Hagen (in the west of the country), in the middle of the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur, sources close to the case reported on Thursday.

These arrests, the number of which was not specified, were carried out after the Hagen synagogue was subjected to increased surveillance by the security forces on Wednesday night following a threat of attack.

The celebration of the main Jewish holiday had to be canceled by this "threat" whose scope was not detailed by the investigators.

This case comes two years after an attack on a synagogue in Halle, also on Yom Kippur.

The alleged perpetrator, a right-wing extremist, had tried unsuccessfully to enter it and shoot the faithful.

He managed to kill two people on the street and in a shop, before being arrested.

Germany has faced in recent years a double jihadist and right-wing extremist threat, considered a priority after several attacks or frustrated attacks.
