Former minister Christiane Taubira does not want to "contribute to the scattering on the left" by becoming the "7th or 8th" candidate, but assured Thursday that she would take part in the presidential campaign because "the stakes are colossal "in the face of the rise of exclusionary rhetoric.
"Even people who have a lot of enthusiasm are able to be reasonable enough to understand that I cannot come and contribute to the scattering", justified on France Inter the one who is in the lead, with François Ruffin, of citizen sponsorships to designate a common candidate on the left for the presidential election, within the framework of the "Popular Primary".
"The stake is colossal, the left cannot afford to lose this election and I do not want to go kindly to align myself as the 7th or 8th candidate of the left", insisted the former Minister of Justice of François Hollande, while welcoming this initiative of the Popular Primary "beautiful and daring", "a bet on participatory democracy".
According to her, the personalities of the left who are already candidates are "all intelligent people", "I know them, I respect them and I esteem them all".
"Things will become clearer" as the campaign progresses, she added.
"I will not stay distant, I will not remain an observer, I will campaign, I will find my place one way or another," she assured in any case.
Unlike 2002, where Ms. Taubira was a candidate competing with Lionel Jospin, in 2022 "the stakes are colossal because society has been worked for the last twenty years by ideas of exclusion, of rejection", " by a quiet xenophobia ".
"We can not afford to play," added Ms. Taubira, denouncing in particular the polemicist Eric Zemmour, potential candidate, who according to her takes pleasure in "objurgations".
The end of the sponsorship of the People's Primary is scheduled for October 11, the date on which the five women and five men pre-selected by the citizens registered on the secure platform Neovote will be known "to save ecology and social justice by 2022 ".
Registered citizens will then vote among these ten candidates, between December 9 and 12, to nominate a potential single candidate from the left forces for the 2022 presidential election.
