The head of the Libyan unity government, Abdel Hamid Dabaiba, met today, Thursday, with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in Cairo. While the UN envoy stressed the need for consensus on the electoral laws in Libya, the Oil Corporation announced the end of the blockade imposed by protesters on the ports of Es Sider and Ras Lanuf.

Today, Thursday, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received the Prime Minister of the Libyan National Unity Government, Abdel Hamid Dabaiba, a day after he received retired Major General Khalifa Haftar and Parliament Speaker Aqila Saleh.

These developments come amid news of a meeting between the Libyan parties in Cairo under Egyptian auspices.

After receiving Haftar and Saleh, Sisi confirmed that Egypt seeks coordination between all Libyan partners in a way that contributes to preserving Libya's unity, preserving its national institutions, and allowing the upcoming elections to be held on time, according to a statement by the Egyptian presidency.

After his meeting with Sisi, Dabaiba met with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly within the framework of the work of the Egyptian-Libyan Joint Higher Committee.

The Prime Minister of the Libyan National Unity Government arrived in Cairo yesterday, Wednesday, on an official visit, at the head of a high-level delegation that includes a large number of ministers and a technical delegation from various government sectors.

At the conclusion of the talks, a number of agreements and memoranda of cooperation in various fields will be signed.

For its part, the Libyan National Oil Corporation said today, Thursday, that the blockade of the Sidra and Ras Lanuf oil ports has ended and export operations have returned to normal.

The corporation had said yesterday, Wednesday, that operations had also returned to normal at the Hariga oil port, after the protesters ended their siege.

 Election laws and dates

In addition, the UN envoy to Libya stressed the need for the State and Parliament to agree on electoral laws in Libya and not to take any unilateral steps.

This came during a telephone conversation between the UN envoy, Jan Kubis, and the head of the High Council of State in Libya, Khaled Al-Mashri.

Kubis told Al-Mashri that he assured all international parties as well as the Speaker of the House of Representatives the need to abide by this.

Al-Mishri informed Kubis that the Supreme Council of State has prepared draft laws proposed for holding the upcoming elections to be submitted to the House of Representatives, in order to consult and agree on them, as stipulated in the political agreement included in the constitutional declaration.

The Supreme Council of State said that Al-Mashri and Kubis showed their firm and firm keenness to hold the elections on the specified date, and made all efforts to solve the obstacles that prevented them from taking place.
