Barely twelve hours after the building's owner Fortum, and Hagfors municipality decided that the power station would be demolished, work began on demolishing the historic house, at 05:30 this morning.

Protests against the demolition

Earlier in September, upset Hagfors residents tried to stop the demolition and both the municipality's cultural director and an antiquarian from the county administrative board were given the task of investigating the power station's cultural-historical value - a value that turned out not to be large enough to leave the building.

Went calmly

Both one of the demolition workers on site and communications manager for Fortum's hydropower, Jonas Morian, tells SVT Värmland that the demolition work this time has been going on undisturbed.

But Thomas Rothschild, who lives in Hagfors and who has been active in the protests against the demolition, was on site already this morning to see the over 100-year-old power station one last time.
