16 September 2021 New cases are down (-14.7%), ordinary hospitalizations (-3.3%) and intensive care (-1.6%).

There are almost exclusively unvaccinated people in the hospital.

This was stated by the Gimbe Foundation in the usual weekly monitoring of the Covid situation in Italy in the week of 8-14 September.

Gimbe notes all declining numbers, including hospitalizations and intensive care.

As for the vaccination campaign: slowdown in the first administrations (-200 thousand compared to the previous week), the hesitation persists especially in the over 50s. Gimbe also notes that there are 10 million doses in the fridge and still over 3 million over 50 without any coverage.

As for "home care": public misinformation, according to the Foundation, confuses people and damages health.

- Nino Cartabellotta (@Cartabellotta) September 16, 2021 Decreasing

hospitalizations: -3.3% in ordinary wards; -1.6% in intensive care

The currently positive cases are therefore decreasing (122,340 vs 133,787), people in home isolation (117,621 vs 128,917), hospitalizations with symptoms (4,165 vs 4,307) and intensive care (554 vs 563) ).

At the national level, the employment rate remains low (7% in the medical area and 6% in the critical area), although considerable regional differences persist: for the medical area, Sicily (21%) and Calabria are above the 15% threshold. (17%); for the critical area above the 10% threshold Marche (13%), Sicily (11%) and Sardinia (11%). "Daily admissions to intensive care are also starting to drop - explains Marco Mosti, Operations Director of the Gimbe Foundation - with a 7-day moving average of 36 admissions / day compared to 42 in the previous week".

Still 33.7% between 12-19 years without minus one dose

With schools already broken down, he worries that in the 12-19 age group, despite the constant increase in coverage, still 1.53 million children (33.7%) have not received even a dose of vaccine, with significant regional differences.

67.5% of Sardinians have completed the vaccination cycle

67.5% of Sardinians, against 68% of Italians, have completed the vaccination cycle, while there is a further 8.4% (Italy average 6.1%) who only received the first dose. The Gimbe Foundation notes this in the usual weekly monitoring. Those over 50 who have not received any vaccine dose represent 11.4% against 11.1% in Italy.

Instead, confirmation arrives that the population of 12-19 years is driving the vaccination campaign in this phase: in Sardinia the very young people who have not received any vaccine dose are equal to 25.5%, while in the rest of the country the figure is stands at 33.7%.

Cartabellotta: "Misinformation on home treatments, Italians get confused"

"It is unacceptable to take the position of public figures, including doctors and politicians, who, by subverting the methodology of scientific research, feed disinformation, putting people's health at risk. Especially those who are undecided, who reject effective and safe vaccines trusting in unauthorized home therapy protocols or even in harmful and contraindicated drugs ". Nino Cartabellotta, president of the Gimbe Foundation, points out this in the comment to the weekly report, returning to the controversy surrounding the anti-Covid home care protocols relaunched in the media.

Cartabellotta recalls the context in which these controversies are grafted. "The gradual increase in vaccination coverage and adherence to individual behaviors have made it possible to contain the fourth wave and new cases and hospitalizations have finally begun to decline. However - he observes - with autumn upon us, the reopening of schools and 9, 4 million people, in addition to the under 12, who have not yet received even a dose of the vaccine, there is a risk of a resumption of the circulation of the virus and an increase in hospitalizations with consequent limitations in assistance to non-Covid patients ".
