September 16, 2021 In July, economic growth is estimated for both trade flows with foreign countries, more intense for exports (+ 2.6%) than for imports (+ 1.3%). Exports grew by 16.1% on an annual basis, with a sustained increase in sales both to the EU area (+ 14.9%) and to non-EU markets (+ 17.4%). Imports recorded an even more marked trend increase (+ 23.8%) involving both areas, the EU (+ 23.2%) and non-EU (+ 24.4%). This was announced by Istat.



The monthly increase in exports is due to the strong increase in sales to non-EU markets (+ 7.5%) while those to the EU area are decreasing (-1.8%). In the May-July 2021 quarter, compared to the previous one, exports grew by 3.1%, imports by 4.9%.



In the first seven months of 2021, the trend growth in exports (+ 22.8%) is due in particular to the increase in sales of base metals and metal products, excluding machinery and plants (+ 34.9%), machinery and equipment nec (+ 22.4%), means of transport, excluding motor vehicles (+ 36.3%) and motor vehicles (+ 42.6%).



The estimated trade balance in July 2021 is equal to +8,762 million euros (it was +9,689 in July 2020). Net of energy products, the balance is +12,383 million (it was +11,675 in July of last year).
