Dozens of Palestinian gunmen roam the streets and alleys of Jenin refugee camp, in the northern West Bank, and say that they are preparing to repel any possible Israeli aggression, as the occupation authorities are still searching for two prisoners who escaped from the high-security Gilboa prison 10 days ago.

In order to confront any possible incursion by the Israeli army, the Palestinian factions formed what they called the joint operations room in the camp, which includes for the first time in years the military wings of the National Liberation Movement (Fatah), the Islamic Resistance (Hamas), and the Islamic Jihad.

On Friday and Saturday, the occupation authorities re-arrested 4 of the six Palestinian prisoners who escaped from Jabloo prison, all of them from Jenin governorate.

Lawyers Raslan and Khaled Mahajna from Umm al-Fahm inside the Palestinian city said after their meeting with the prisoners Mahmoud and Muhammad Ardah, yesterday, Wednesday, in the "Jalma" prison near Haifa, that the basic plan of the six prisoners was to escape from Gilboa prison to the West Bank and reach Jenin camp.

Factions unite

An Anadolu Agency correspondent in Jenin camp spoke with gunmen who hide their faces with masks bearing the slogans of the factions to which they belong. -16 (M-16) "Ready to fight, we won't back down."

Another masked gunman, also affiliated with Saraya al-Quds, the armed wing of the Islamic Jihad movement, said that the general alert was announced in the Jenin camp, adding that dozens of fighters were ready to repel any attack by the Israeli army.

The gunman added that the fighters are young men between the ages of 20 to 30 years, and they are from struggling families, some of whom lost their father or brother as a martyr, and among them is Ibn Asir, noting that resistance fighters from different areas of the West Bank have arrived at Jenin camp in preparation for any battle.

Marches and confrontations

Following the re-arrest of the four Palestinian prisoners, the residents of Jenin camp organize marches and sit-ins, and throw stones and Molotov cocktails at the Jalameh military checkpoint near Jenin.

Prior to the prisoner escape, Israel killed 4 resistance fighters during an incursion into the camp on August 16, and since that time the camp has been in a state of anger and alertness, in preparation for repelling any intrusion.

On the other hand, IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kohavi did not rule out launching a military operation in Jenin or the Gaza Strip, and said in an interview with Israeli Channel 12 that "the plans are there. If events are repeated, we will launch an operation whenever we need to."

It should be noted that the occupation army had previously entered the city of Jenin and its camp in April 2002, and within 10 days had killed at least 52 Palestinians, about half of whom were civilians; About 150 buildings were completely destroyed, dozens were partially destroyed, 435 families were displaced, and 23 Israeli soldiers were killed during the clashes at the hands of the resistance fighters.
