One person is still missing on Wednesday morning, the day after the violent storms that hit the Gard.

This person would have fallen at the end of the afternoon in the Rhony river, a tributary of the Vistre, in the town of Aimargues, southwest of Nîmes, said the Gard firefighters this Wednesday morning.

The search resumed to try to find his trace.

“The person was hanging on to debris and rescuers could hear him, then contact was broken,” explained Lieutenant-Colonel Eric Agrinier.

“Either the person escaped downstream, alone or with the help of emergency services, or it is the more dramatic hypothesis and they potentially drowned, which we do not hope.

"

The other two people are no longer missing

Tuesday, at the beginning of the afternoon, the prefecture had mentioned the disappearance of two other people, in Uchaud and Aigues-Vives.

At the end of the afternoon, the missing person in Uchaud was finally found and was able to return to his home.

Concerning the person of Aigues-Vives, "research and testimonies have led to the hypothesis of his disappearance being ruled out", also indicated the prefecture.

Since the onset of bad weather on Tuesday morning, the Gard firefighters have also carried out more than 90 rescues of people in difficulty.
