September 15, 2021 In August, the national consumer price index for the whole community (NIC), before tobacco, rose by 0.4% on a monthly basis and by 2.0% on an annual basis (from +1 , 9% of the previous month);

the preliminary estimate was + 2.1%.

Istat notes this, specifying that inflation reaches a level that has not been recorded since January 2013 (when it was +2.2%), mainly due to the prices of energy goods which continue to have a very large growth both for the regulated component and the non-regulated component.

Istat stresses that the slight tendential acceleration in inflation is mainly due to that of energy prices (from + 18.6% in July to + 19.8%) and in particular those of the non-regulated component (from + 11.2% to + 12.8%), while the prices of the regulated component continue to record a very large growth (and slightly accelerating from + 34.2% to + 34.4%).

The prices of unprocessed food (which reverse the trend from -0.2% to + 0.8%) contribute to this dynamic, but to a lesser extent, while the prices of transport services slightly amplify their decline ( from -0.2% to -0.4%). The 'core inflation', net of energy and fresh food, remains stable at + 0.6%, while that net of energy goods alone accelerates slightly from + 0.4% in July to + 0.5% . The cyclical increase in the general index is due on the one hand to seasonal factors that influence the growth of the prices of transport services (+ 2.8%) and of recreational, cultural and personal care services (+0, 7%) and on the other the prices of non-regulated energy goods (+ 1.7%) and unprocessed food (+ 0.4%).

The national consumer price index for blue-collar and white-collar households (FOI), net of tobacco, recorded an increase of 0.5% on a monthly basis and of 2.1% on an annual basis. The inflation acquired for 2021 is equal to + 1.7% for the general index and + 0.9% for the core component.
