Adnan Abou Walid Al-Sahraoui, the leader of the jihadist armed group Islamic State of the Great Sahara (EIGS), has been neutralized by the French army, announced President Emmanuel Macron on Twitter, on the night of Wednesday 15 to Thursday 16 September . 

"This is another major success in our fight against terrorist groups in the Sahel," Emmanuel Macron tweeted.

Adnan Abou Walid al Sahraoui was the historic leader of the jihadist struggle and of the branch of the Islamic State Organization in the Sahel, he was responsible for deadly attacks in Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso, targeting civilians and forces security of the region.

The organization had targeted American soldiers in a deadly attack in 2017. On August 9, 2020, in Niger, Adnan Abou Walid al Sahraoui had personally ordered the assassination of six French aid workers and their Nigerien guide and driver.
