The figures for Covid-19 contamination remain high, around 35,000 new cases per day currently, so the Prime Minister detailed on Tuesday a series of measures to avoid a new wave this winter.

Measures currently based on vaccination.

But the British government does not rule out having recourse to restrictions if the health situation deteriorates.

To prevent a new saturation of hospitals this winter, Boris Johnson relies above all on vaccines.

It's his "plan A", as he puts it.

Offer a third booster dose to people over 50 and vulnerable people next week.

And start vaccinating young people aged 12 to 15, hitherto excluded from the campaign.

But the British government has also planned a "plan B", measures kept "

in reserve

", in case the situation gets out of control.

As for example the use of a sanitary pass at the entrance of discotheques or concert halls.

The Prime Minister has so far always refused to do so.

It would not be reasonable to completely exclude this kind of option right now, when it could make it possible to keep certain places open at full capacity ... We also keep the possibility of making masks mandatory again, or of advise teleworking.

 "

With this series of announcements, the government wants to remind Britons that the virus is still circulating rapidly, even though vaccines reduce the risk of severe forms.

The figures for contaminations, hospitalizations and deaths are even higher now than last year at the same period, with the arrival of autumn.
