The Dubai Health Authority has launched an artificial intelligence policy in the health field, which is the first of its kind in this specialized field at the state level, allowing the use of artificial intelligence robots to perform surgery faster and provide assistance to the surgeon more efficiently.
She stated that this policy is compatible with the directions of the state, and the aspirations of the Emirate of Dubai for artificial intelligence in health care, while it aimed to determine the regulatory requirements for the provision of artificial intelligence solutions in this important field, and to determine the ethical requirements for artificial intelligence solutions, in addition to defining the main roles and responsibilities of stakeholders, and those concerned with developing and the use of artificial intelligence in health care.
The policy aims to set the legislative and regulatory framework for the use of artificial intelligence solutions in the field of health and research, and to enhance the level of interaction, communication and cooperation between government health agencies, the private sector and the scientific community on artificial intelligence applications, to contribute to accelerating the development of services in this vital sector in the country, and support its long-term strategy. To consolidate its leadership in the field of artificial intelligence.
Its scope extends to include all artificial intelligence solutions related to healthcare services used by medical facilities, specialists, drug manufacturers, health insurance companies, public health centers, and researchers within the authority's jurisdiction.
The Director of the Informatics and Smart Health Department at the authority, Dr. Muhammad Al-Rida, said that the term artificial intelligence refers to systems or devices that simulate human intelligence to perform tasks, and which can improve themselves based on the information they collect.
He explained that artificial intelligence allows the use of artificial intelligence robots to perform surgery faster, provide assistance to the surgeon more efficiently, and use artificial intelligence to analyze health information from a large set of data.
He added that artificial intelligence is more about the ability to superior thinking and data analysis than to a specific form or function, and it greatly enhances human capabilities and contributions, making it a valuable business asset.
He said that artificial intelligence is a cornerstone of the health sector's growth plans in the country, especially as it offers broad prospects for the development of current sectors, in addition to paving the way for a new set of business models and innovative technologies.
He stressed that the policy of artificial intelligence in the health field at the level of Dubai, will benefit all health sectors that depend on artificial intelligence, and is in line with the authority's commitment to advancing the growth of the health sector and employing artificial intelligence for the benefit of patients and society.
The official in charge of information policies and smart health, Dr. Mahira Abdul Rahman, said that the authority seeks to benefit from the capabilities of artificial intelligence, to ensure smart management, work with high efficiency, and enhance productivity in the health field.
She stressed the importance of all AI solutions for healthcare complying with international and federal information laws, regulations and guidelines for the UAE and Dubai, especially with regard to human values, patient privacy, people's rights and professional ethics.
It also stressed the need for AI solutions for healthcare to be safe and secure, and subject to supervision and monitoring by professional users, and that AI solutions for healthcare that may directly affect people's lives should be designed with great care.
