SVT Nyheter Blekinge was able to reveal on 20 August this year that the 23-year-old's defense lawyer Eric Widner on his own initiative requested and emptied the mobile phone that his client had at his disposal and the time before the murder of the 57-year-old.

According to Widner, despite the request, no complete mobile phone was emptied by the police investigator and for that reason the defense chose to go through all the digital tracks in the phone on their own.

In the Court of Appeal today, Widner chose to present the new evidence:

- I do it to give support for what my client has said, support for information that has emerged in the examination of witnesses and to show that it is a question of a long-term manipulation.

Alleged mafia connection

Some of the dialogues between the two men date back to the autumn of 2019. Some concern the 57-year-old murder victim's alleged connection to the international mafia.

The dialogue also makes it clear that the 22-year-old describes himself as seriously ill - with a diagnosed tumor.

Prosecutor Anna Johansson Toresten said already during the opening day of the hearing that she does not think that the new information has any significance for the case in general.

- I have not found that it has been of interest to the investigation.

Want to see lighter punishment

SVT Nyheter Blekinge's reporter Jennifer Alm is present in the Court of Appeal in Malmö to follow today's hearing.

- When Eric Widner goes through the conversations, the 23-year-old sits still with his eyes on the table in front of him.

The 22-year-old and his defender both follow the papers they have in front of them, Jennifer Alm says from inside the negotiating room.

Karl Hamstedt, who defends the 22-year-old, demands a lighter sentence for his client to a fixed-term sentence.

He believes that the district court made an incorrect assessment regarding what they called aggravating points and did not take into account the 22-year-old's mental disorder, which he believes should be seen as mitigating.

- It is obviously the case that (22-year-old) said a lot to (23-year-old) which is not true but it is due to his mental illness.

We believe that it is completely out of the question that he deep down believed in what was said, says Hamstedt and about the chat history and believes that the 23-year-old was the driving force.
