Jonas Gardell recently visited Örebro and SVT Nyheter Örebro meets him at Järntorget, the place where the first demonstration in Sweden for homosexual freedom was held in 1971.

Jonas Gardell has been working on the book for almost five years.

It is a documentary novel that stretches from the middle of the 19th century onwards.

Wants to highlight forgotten history

From the beginning, he thought that the movements started in the larger cities and that Stockholm would be the important cog in the book, but instead it turned out the other way around.

Instead, it was rooted in smaller cities and the movements that started there.

Jonas Gardell describes another Örebro that was below the surface, where homosexuals hid and movements that then appeared in the 70s.

In his work, Jonas also noticed that Örebro had the most porn clubs in Sweden.

- This is history that they have actively tried to delete.

I hope the book will teach you what your history teacher did not teach you in school, says Jonas Gardell.

In the clip, Jonas Gardell tells more about his book "A happier year" which takes place in Örebro, among other places.
