"Smart" officer monitors violations of heavy vehicles in Dubai

The Roads and Transport Authority and the Dubai Police General Command have announced the start of linking the authority's systems related to permits for right-of-way services, which are related to permits to transport heavy vehicles (request to issue a permit to transport vehicles of excessive weight or sizes, permits to transport heavy vehicles in times and areas of prohibition), and the smart officer system. In Dubai Police, so that police patrols identify violating heavy vehicles, which do not have the necessary permits to pass on Dubai roads, through the Dubai Police system.

The streets of the Emirate of Dubai were classified in relation to the times of the ban into three categories: a complete ban for 24 hours: it applies to both the airport and Shindagha tunnels, the Al Maktoum bridge and the floating bridge, in addition to Al Qudra Street, and a partial ban from six in the morning to ten in the evening, and it applies to the streets of Markaz Madinah, Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Ittihad Street, and intermittent bans during the day, which are three ban times as follows: morning ban from 6:30 to 8:30, midday ban from 1 pm to 3 pm, and evening ban from 5: 30 to 8, and it applies to the rest of the streets of the emirate, to which three times of curfew are applied.

The authority aims, by applying the curfew times on the streets, to reduce traffic congestion at peak times, especially when employees go and return to work, and to maintain the safety of road users. Traffic is almost non-existent, from two in the morning until five in the morning, after obtaining a permit from the Roads and Transport Authority.

The Executive Director of the Traffic and Roads Agency at the Roads and Transport Authority, Engineer Maitha bin Uday, confirmed that this cooperation contributes to regulating traffic and reduces congestion caused by the passage of heavy vehicles in violation at peak times on Dubai roads, and also contributes to raising the level of traffic safety in order to achieve the vision of the authority. In the "global leadership in easy and sustainable mobility", this link will contribute to preserving the assets and properties of the Roads and Transport Authority on the streets and roads.

The Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations Affairs in Dubai Police, Major General Engineer Mohammed Saif Al-Zafin, stated that this connection will strengthen, enhance and facilitate the process of traffic control, and Dubai Police patrols will be able to detect heavy vehicles in violation without the need to stop the vehicle, and that the violation will be in the case of Not obtaining a permit, or violating one of the conditions of the approved permit, bearing in mind that the vehicle will not need a printed permit to present it to the patrol, because all permit details will be linked to the vehicle number and shown in the system of both parties, which supports the Emirate of Dubai’s approach to paperless transactions.
