China Taiwan.com reported on September 13 that Taiwan media quoted foreign media sources, saying that the United States is considering the possibility of the DPP authorities’ proposal to rename the Taiwan Representative Office in the United States to "Taiwan Representative Office."

Li Dazhong, associate professor of the Institute of International Affairs and Strategy at Tamkang University in Taiwan and chairman of the China Strategic Foresight Association, said in an interview with the China Assessment Agency that the United States has no intention of changing the status quo and has a clear attitude. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States in 1979, the United States has not changed its policy.

Li Dazhong said that the U.S. Congress does have some "Friendly Taiwan" proposals, which may have been more numerous in recent years. Some bills passed during Trump's administration will also be signed to make them effective, but how should the content of these bills be implemented?

The extent to which it can be implemented still depends on the actual practice of the administrative department and the decision of the policy.

Li Dazhong said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States in 1979, the United States has not changed its policy. Even in the last year of Trump’s administration last year, the United States has not changed this policy. After Biden took office, the speeches on related topics were basically the same. China's structure, so the United States has no intention to change the status quo attitude, and this is the most important foundation of Sino-US relations for Beijing.

As for Taiwan’s foreign affairs department’s recent preparations for the proposal to join the United Nations, Li Dazhong said that the degree of the proposal is very different from the proposal. If the proposal is entrusted to a "state with diplomatic relations", it may be directly returned. The most impressive thing is that Chen Shuibian came to power in 2007. When he submitted a proposal to the United Nations, and in the same year introduced the United Nations "referendum", not only was the proposal directly rejected, but at that time US President George W. Bush directly criticized it, making it very embarrassing.

China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has long responded to the changes and minor actions between the United States and Taiwan. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying once stated that the Taiwan issue is the most important and sensitive issue in Sino-US relations.

China urges the US to abide by the one-China principle and the provisions of the three Sino-US joint communiqués, change the dangerous practices of the previous administration of "crossing the line" and "playing with fire", handle Taiwan-related issues carefully and properly, and refrain from sending any wrong signals to "Taiwan independence" forces. .
