The crisis between President Mohamed Abdullah Mohamed, says Farmajo, and his Prime Minister Mohammed Hussein Roble escalates as the country is slated to hold a presidential election in October 2021. The crisis began earlier this year, when the head of the state extended her mandate, which had just expired, by two years, but it came to light after the assassination last June of an intelligence agent.

In front of a United Nations delegation, visiting Mogadishu this Sunday, September 12, the Prime Minister again called for a "

credible

 "

investigation

into this affair.

He asked that all obstacles be removed to find the culprits.

An accusation that targets the director of intelligence, but also President Farmajo, increasingly suspected of opposing this investigation.

Ten days ago, the Prime Minister sacked the head of intelligence services (Nisa), Fahad Yasin, deeming the conclusions of his investigation into the disappearance of Ikran Tahlil Farah, 25, unconvincing.

This cybersecurity specialist at the Somali National Intelligence Agency was kidnapped on June 26 near her home in Mogadishu, then tortured and murdered.

The international community worries

The dismissal of the senior official did not please the Head of State who annulled this "

illegal and unconstitutional

" decision, then appointed a replacement of his choice at the head of Nisa, after having promoted Fahad Yasin as adviser to the national security.

On Wednesday, new tension when the Prime Minister announced the dismissal of the Minister of Security, replaced by a critic of Farmajo.

Decisions which therefore accentuated

the standoff between the two men

.

Since then, the president and his prime minister have met on several occasions to try to calm the crisis, but without success.

The international community is worried about this crisis as the country is due to hold presidential elections in less than a month.

This Sunday, in front of the same United Nations delegation, the Prime Minister assured that

the ballot will be held as planned

, despite the tensions at the top of power.
