China News Service, Hefei, September 13 (Reporter Wu Lan) On September 13, the winners of the 2021 "Science Exploration Award" were announced.

Professors Xu Feihu, Zhu Xiaobo, and Qin Liping of the University of Science and Technology of China won the "Scientific Exploration Award".

Among them, Xu Feihu and Zhu Xiaobo won the "Mathematics Physics" award, and Professor Qin Liping won the "Astronomy and Earth Science" award.

Up to now, 9 scientists from the University of Science and Technology of China have won this honor.

Xu Feihu has made outstanding contributions to quantum information technologies such as quantum communication and single-photon imaging. In the future, he plans to explore practical quantum communication networks and long-range single-photon radars.

Zhu Xiaobo has made significant contributions to scalable superconducting quantum computing, and has developed a programmable superconducting quantum computing prototype "Zuchongzhi" to achieve "quantum superiority."

In the future, it will explore the physical realization of quantum error correction and the recent applications based on quantum simulation and shallow quantum circuits.

Qin Liping has made significant contributions to the development of high-precision metal isotope analysis methods, the formation and differentiation of planets in the solar system, and the evolution of the early Earth’s atmosphere. In the future, she plans to use isotopes to restrict the source of material in the Earth-Moon system.

The "Science Exploration Award" is a public welfare award funded and supported by the Tencent Foundation and led by scientists. It is currently one of the highest funding programs for young scientific and technological talents in China.

Adhering to the tenet of "Facing the Future, Rewarding Potential, Encouraging Exploration", the "Science Exploration Award" is oriented to basic science and cutting-edge technology and rewards young scientific and technological workers aged 45 and below who work full-time in Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau.

Each winner will receive a bonus of 3 million yuan within 5 years and is free to use.

According to the person in charge of the "Scientific Exploration Award" project, more than 800 academicians from various countries and more than 20 well-known university presidents participated in the nomination, recommendation, and review process for this year's awards.

"This shows that the award has been widely recognized by the society, and its credibility and prestige are accumulating rapidly." Pan Jianwei, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, executive vice president of the University of Science and Technology of China, and one of the sponsors of the "Science Exploration Award" said, "The award has been in the past three years. What impressed me most was the serious and serious review process. Many senior scientists invested a lot of time and energy, repeatedly weighed, and did meticulous work."
