The Taliban are lying and France will not have any relationship with its newly formed government.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said this on Saturday evening before he left for Qatar to discuss future evacuations from Afghanistan on Sunday.

"They said they would let some foreigners and Afghans leave freely and spoke of an inclusive and representative government, but they are lying," Le Drian told

"France refuses to recognize this government or have any kind of relationship with this government. We want action from the Taliban and they will need some economic breathing space and international relations. It's up to them."

Paris has evacuated about 3,000 people and held talks with the Taliban to allow those departures.

According to Le Drian, there are still a few French and a few hundred Afghans with ties to France who remain in Afghanistan.
