Two weeks before the German parliamentary elections (September 26), the three candidates for chancellery met on Sunday evening for a second televised debate.

An important meeting for the Christian Democrat Armin Laschet, while his party has declined significantly in the polls, to a level unprecedented since the war.

He faced the Social Democrat Olaf Scholz, whose party is now in the lead, and environmentalist Annalena Baerbock.

For the current favorite,

Olaf Scholz

, the important

thing

was not to make mistakes.

As for the Christian Democrat Armin Laschet, whose party is at the lowest in the polls, the idea was to attack to score points and make up part of the delay.

The CDU candidate criticized a recent search of the Ministry of Finance to question the image of seriousness and competence of the Social Democrat Scholz, in difficulty.

But 41% of viewers, in a hot poll, considered that the vice-chancellor had been the most convincing at the end of the debate, far ahead of the Green and Christian Democrat candidates.

This “triell” will undoubtedly not change the situation.

Dedicated above all to economic and social issues, this debate highlighted the proximity of environmentalists and social democrats on many issues.

Olaf Scholz concluded with a very social discourse: “

Those who earn little today must be better paid.

You need an hourly minimum wage of 12

euros and stable pensions.

 "

Conversely, the conservative

Armin Laschet

put forward a more liberal view of the company, in which an underlying criticism against his opponents was noticeable: “

You can trust me.

I will not put sticks in your legs.

I'll let you do it.

You will not be told how to think, how to speak, or how to live.

 "

The ecologist

Annalena Baerbock

, finally, put forward its central theme, the climate, criticizing the record of the representatives of the outgoing grand coalition: “

The next government is the last which can actively fight against global warming.

We kids don't have to one day ask ourselves '' Why didn't you do anything? '' But '' How did you get there? ''
