Vladimir Putin took part in the opening ceremony of the memorial "Prince Alexander Nevsky with his retinue" on the shore of Lake Peipsi. The monument was consecrated by Patriarch Kirill. The sculptural complex was erected to mark the 800th anniversary of the birth of Prince Alexander Nevsky. The President said that it was in this place that Alexander Nevsky defeated the invaders and defended all of Ancient Russia. At the same time, as the head of state noted, the images of the Pskov paratroopers who died in 2000 in an unequal battle with terrorists in Chechnya are immortalized in the monument.
