Putin noted that images of Pskov paratroopers were immortalized in the Nevsky monument

“Here we also see the faces of the paratroopers of the legendary 6th company, who have shown massive heroism in our time.

It is symbolic that their regiment is named after Alexander Nevsky.

And today the soldiers of this regiment are here on the guard of honor.

Nothing can break the sacred link of times and generations, ”the head of state said.

Putin thanked the sculptor Vitaly Shanov "for the talented embodiment of the heroic images of the warriors-defenders."

Earlier, Putin arrived in the Pskov region to participate in the opening ceremony of the memorial complex "Prince Alexander Nevsky with the squad."

The sculptural complex on the shores of Lake Peipsi was erected to mark the 800th anniversary of the birth of Prince Alexander Nevsky.

On March 1, 2000, 84 out of 90 soldiers of the 6th Pskov paratrooper company were heroically killed during a battle with militants in the Argun Gorge in Chechnya.

In an unequal battle, with the support of artillery, the paratroopers killed up to 400 bandits.
