Pedersen discusses in Damascus the economic challenges facing the Syrians

The UN envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, confirmed today that he discussed in Damascus the economic challenges facing the Syrian citizens.

In a press statement today, after meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Miqdad, Pedersen said: "We discussed the economic and humanitarian challenges related to the livelihood of the Syrians and how we can improve the general situation. Of course, we linked the talks to the approach it presented under the title "step for step", and certainly the Constitutional Committee and how it could to make progress.”

Pedersen added: "I had very successful talks about everything related to the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2254, and I think it is fair to say that during these talks we touched upon all the challenges facing Syria and spent some time talking about the situation on the ground in various Syrian regions."

Syrian diplomatic sources told German News Agency (dpa) that Minister Miqdad and the UN envoy discussed preparations for the next round of the Syrian dialogue to be held in Geneva.

Pedersen arrived in the capital, Damascus, on Friday evening, on his fifth visit to Syria since he took office at the beginning of last year.
