Patron of the BCEAO for fifteen years, he was for sixteen months the head of government of a shattered country, between 2005 and 2007. He also headed, from 2011 to 2014, the Dialogue, Truth and Reconciliation Commission (CDVR), of which conclusions and recommendations have often gone unheeded.
