An Israeli police spokeswoman said that the police arrested two other Palestinians early on Saturday who were among six prisoners who escaped days ago from an Israeli high-security prison.

The two men were found hiding in a truck parking lot in an Arab village, east of Nazareth, where two others were arrested hours earlier.

After the arrest of four, the Israeli police are conducting a massive chase today, Saturday, to seize the remaining two.

The six, who are five members of the "Islamic Jihad" movement and a member of the "Fatah" movement, escaped early last Monday, after they dug a tunnel whose beginning was a hole next to the toilet in their cell.

One of those arrested on Saturday morning was Zakaria Zubeidi, the former leader of the "Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades" affiliated with Fatah movement in the city of Jenin in the West Bank, who had previously received an Israeli pardon.

Israel re-detained Zubeidi in 2019 after allegations of his involvement in new attacks.

Pictures published by Israeli media showed Zubeidi and a member of the "Islamic Jihad", apparently after their detention, while they were blindfolded and handcuffed.

Palestinians participated in demonstrations in support of the six prisoners throughout the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and Palestinian factions said that their arrest would have repercussions.
