Foreign Minister Motegi visited New York, where the UN General Assembly will be held, in late September, and began coordinating to meet individually with the foreign ministers of each country.

According to Foreign Ministry officials, Foreign Minister Motegi has begun coordinating a visit to the site in late September in time for the UN General Assembly to be held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.



In addition to individual meetings with foreign ministers of each country, he attended meetings by foreign ministers of Japan, Germany, Brazil, and India aiming to become permanent members of the UN Security Council, including the expansion of permanent members. We will exchange opinions on the progress of Security Council reform.



On the other hand, Prime Minister Suga is coordinating to send video messages without attending the UN General Assembly.



Prime Minister Suga is scheduled to attend the summit meeting of Japan, the United States, Australia, and India in Washington on the 24th of this month, and would like to exchange opinions on measures against the new coronavirus and the situation in Afghanistan.



For Prime Minister Suga, who will retire at the end of September when his term of office expires, this visit to the United States is expected to be his last foreign visit as Prime Minister, and during his stay, he will be individually with the leaders of the three countries. Meetings will also be held.
