The opening of the States General of higher and university education took place this Friday, September 10 in Lubumbashi.
The rectors of public and private universities, coming from all over the country, as well as the heads of higher institutions will audit the current system of higher education, identify the evils that plague it and propose new reforms.

The challenges in the Congolese higher education and university sector are enormous.
More than 50 years ago, the University of the DRC was in 3rd place in Africa.
Today, it is not even among the top 200 universities on the continent.
The degradation of the education system plagued by corruption and mismanagement are among the causes.

These anti-values manifest themselves, among other things, in the proliferation of universities and unsustainable graduate schools, often with
underqualified
teaching and administrative staff,
" said Muhido Nzambi, Minister of Higher and University Education

These institutions can be called diploma canteens at any cost.

Teacher salary expectations
According to the minister, we must restore order.
Another challenge to be taken up is that of academic training, which must be competitive.
The DRC trains more job seekers than entrepreneurs.
Hence the need to generalize the LMD system (License-Master-Doctorate), very advantageous, as indicated, for his part, Professor Alexie Takizala: "
The LMD system must allow the student to be employable as soon as he came out of his training

And to get there, it will be necessary to improve the financial management of universities.
Teachers, for their part
, expect the government to commit to improving salary conditions from this work.
Every year, in fact, they are on strike to demand better recognition.
