It is understood that the Yun-20 transport aircraft is the first domestically-made large-scale military transport aircraft independently developed by China. It was officially installed in the Chinese Air Force aviation unit in July 2016.

For more than five years, the Y-20 transport aircraft has successively traveled abroad to transport anti-epidemic supplies, and has gone to Russia to participate in joint military exercises and international military competitions, and has visited many countries.

The participation in the "Peace Mission-2021" SCO member states' joint counter-terrorism military exercise is the Y-20 transport aircraft once again performing cross-border air transport missions.

Two hours before leaving the country, the captain Chang Xianjun led the crew members for the final task coordination.

Chang Xianjun is a first-class pilot of a certain division of the Air Force in the Western Theater Command. He has performed many major domestic military exercises and overseas flight missions.

This time, the Yun-20 transport aircraft opened up a new overseas route, and the Ministry specially dispatched Chang Xianjun with rich overseas flight experience to lead the crew to complete air transportation.

"Although there are complex weather and unfamiliar airspace control habits during the flight, we must also consider factors such as flight time, new routes, unknown weather, and epidemic risks. However, our crew has performed such tasks many times and are experienced in dealing with these issues. "Chang Xianjun said.

In order to ensure the safety and smoothness of the mission and the arrival of personnel on time, during the mission preparation stage, the crew fully studied the meteorological conditions in unfamiliar airspace, combined with the previous outbound flight missions to summarize experience, sort out the risk points, carry out new route planning, alternate airport selection and alternate landing Route development.

Landing at an unfamiliar airport is faced with new airspace control methods and take-off and landing modes, and it is necessary to implement entry and departure procedures in accordance with the requirements of the Russian side.

For this reason, the 34-year-old co-pilot Fan Shuguang conducted a thorough study of the target airport.

Although it didn't take long to join the Yun-20 team, his hard training and mission experience allowed him to grow quickly.

The pilot Liu Yi served as the liaison officer for this air transport mission. This is his fifteenth time for a cross-border flight mission to Russia.

Prior to this, he has visited 8 Russian airports and participated in the Yun-20 transport aircraft to open up new routes to Russia. He is familiar with Russian command mode, communication methods and even accent, and has extensive communication experience.

The air delivery is a single sortie, long voyage time, flying on unfamiliar routes overseas, and unfamiliar regions, and maintenance of maintenance has become the key to completing the flight mission.

Two hours before departure, before dawn, the air mechanic Wang Han and the mission crew used flashlights to perform various pre-flight preparations.

Due to the needs of epidemic prevention and control, the crew made full preparations before departure. Masks, protective clothing, goggles, and disinfectant were all available to ensure the safety of personnel to the greatest extent.

After arriving at Orenburg No. 2 airport, the Y-20 crew began to prepare for the return trip. Special engineer Lu Kui picked up a stone by the runway and put it in his bag.

Whenever they perform a major mission and arrive at a new airport, the crew must collect some local "specialties", take them back by plane, and bring back the story.

This has become a tradition of the Yun-20 team.

"The successful completion of the'Peace Mission-2021' SCO member states' joint anti-terrorism military exercise air transport mission represents another solid step for our'Kunpeng' team to grow combat effectiveness." The mission crew member said that the completion of this cross-border transport investment The delivery once again proved the airworthiness and reliability of the Yun-20 transport aircraft, the strategic delivery capability has been further tested, and valuable experience has been accumulated, which will lay a solid foundation for the next step of the troop’s implementation of the cross-domain long-range delivery mission.
