10 September 2021 Alitalia workers returned to the square this morning in Piazza San Silvestro in Rome, after yesterday's demonstrations and the day before yesterday, to prevent "a serious situation from becoming dramatic". The confederal unions that have promoted the mobilizations of these days are clamoring - as reiterated in a note - "the extension of the redundancy fund at least until 2025, the maintenance of the National Collective Labor Agreement without derogations, guarantees for all related contracts" .

And they underline: "Years of errors in the management of the national airline, together with the inevitable measures adopted by the Government to counter the spread of the Sars Cov 2 virus, have generated very serious repercussions that have profoundly marked the air transport sector but also local transport, trade, maintenance, services, ground assistance and all related industries. More than 40 thousand employees are now in great difficulty and for thousands of them, coming from Alitalia, the prospect is the loss of their jobs and income: a disaster! ".

"Throughout Europe, the institutions have implemented extraordinary measures to defend employment in this sector and to relaunch it while, on the contrary, the breakdown of the trade union confrontation and the declarations of the top management of ITA give a negative acceleration that must be interrupted - continues the note - Since the Alitalia crisis began in the 2000s, our territory is once again penalized by incomprehensible choices, lacking in vision and knowledge of the reality of air transport. past and the total distraction of national politics and even today this government proves that it is unable to build alliances, to pursue ambitious relaunch objectives,to take on solutions that do not abandon female workers to a sad destiny, in short, to create a country system. An important industrial and occupational asset for the territory is sinking and for this reason, as confederal trade unions and the sectors concerned, we have already asked for a structured comparison with the regional administration and with local institutions to find the appropriate measures to protect employment and development, to identify solutions for the thousands of workers interested, starting with active policies and training. "And while the workers are in the streets, the news arrives that the Deputy Minister of Economy, Laura Castelli, will meet the trade unions this afternoon at 3 pm .An important industrial and occupational asset for the territory is sinking and for this reason, as confederal trade unions and the sectors concerned, we have already asked for a structured comparison with the regional administration and with local institutions to find the appropriate measures to protect employment and development, to identify solutions for the thousands of workers interested, starting with active policies and training. Landini: "The government must intervene"

'' We ask that the government intervene, this cannot be a negotiation simply left in the hands of the new company that cannot think of kicking off national contracts and even of not making precise commitments both on an industrial level and on the assumptions that must be made "says the general secretary of the CGIL Maurizio Landini. And adds:" as in all delicate situations, it is also necessary that there is an instrumentation of social safety nets that allows both training and the fact that over time all these workers have guaranteed employment "." We have no intention of using public money to sign layoffs, we want to use public money intelligently so that there is a serious recovery plan for the wholeairport activity in our country ", concluded Landini.

Giovannini: "Orlando has already identified two possible solutions"

Reassurances come from the Minister of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility, Enrico Giovannini: "On the future of the people who will remain in the old Alitalia, Minister Orlando has already identified possible solutions not only for short-term social safety nets, but also for continuous training". Then he explained that "the Ita plan, which has been validated by the EU Commission, is a plan to grow", in fact "we start with a relatively limited fleet but that already in 2022 should significantly expand its size, consistently with the recovery of the international air transport market and gradually to grow in the following years ". So "we need to have trained workers, ready to eventually be re-employed when Ita will implement a growing industrial plan ", underlined the minister.
