The Gothenburg shipyard that was recently canceled due to the pandemic situation may still get rid of.

That is the message after an extra board meeting on Wednesday night.

- The situation has changed greatly.

The board has now commissioned union director Martin Bergman to investigate whether the conditions exist when it comes to healthcare and other event calendars, says Jahja Zeqiraj.

Abrupt changes

The reason for the turnaround is the government's announcement that several restrictions will disappear on 29 September.

This meant that the management of Göteborgsvarvet could suddenly rethink and start discussing new dates for the race already this autumn.

And it is precisely the conditions of healthcare that Jahja Zeqiraj is concerned about.

- Despite the announcement of lifting restrictions, we have a continued social responsibility.

We prepare for the worst and hope for the best, as it has been the whole pandemic, says Jahja Zeqiraj, chairman of the Gothenburg Athletics Association.

The Gothenburg shipyard was previously planned for 11 September, but with reference to the infection situation, it was recently canceled.

In addition, the registration fees would not be refunded, which has been heavily criticized by many who were registered.

Quick decision

If there is to be a lap, or two, in October, it is important to make this decision immediately.

35,000 runners are registered for the Gothenburg lap and 10,000 for the Gothenburg Marathon.

- We understand that everyone needs information as soon as possible.

Both the City of Gothenburg, the health service and the runners need a date, says Jahja Zeqiraj.

What do you think then - will there be a lap in October?

- I feel hopeful.

It would have been incredibly fun to be able to complete a physical Gothenburg lap.

It would be a manifestation of the reopening of society, says Jahja Zeqiraj.
