09 September 2021 The Delta variant continues to besiege the United States where, despite the progress of the mass vaccination campaign, there is still an immense "reservoir" of unvaccinated people, about 75 million people, including the disease unfortunately it is hitting heavily. The data of the last four days speak for themselves and confirm how much virologists are repeating, or that in the States the new coronavirus has settled on a plateau too high to hope for an imminent end of the emergency. According to the authoritative observatory of the New York Times, in the day just ended 148,538 infections and 1,537 deaths were recorded, against 152,222 cases and 1,497 deaths of the previous day, which are added to the 132,135 infections and 1,385 deaths on Monday (Sunday there had been 161.210 and 1,558). So, in just four days, the States mourn 5,997 lethalities due to Covid, for a total that has now reached 652,037 victims from the outbreak of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, just as doctors feared, in the last period, thanks to the reopening of schools, infections have exploded among children and adolescents. "What we are seeing now is extremely concerning," Edith Bracho-Sanchez, a pediatrician at Columbia University's Irving Medical Center, told CNN. "This virus is really raging among unvaccinated people, and among them are children who can't get it as well as teenagers who might but choose not to." The statistics of the phenomenon are really impressive and should probably make other countries think too, which are in a situation similar to that of the USA where, according to data from the Department of Health, as many as 2.396 children are currently hospitalized for Covid-related problems, with an average of 369 pediatric patients hospitalized each day during the week ending 6 September. Overall, in one year, more than 55,000 children affected by Covid were hospitalized in the US (source CDC), many of them without known pre-existing conditions. Unfortunately, although still rare, infant deaths from Covid-19 are also on the rise. Since the onset of the disease, according to CDC data, at least 520 pediatric patients in the US have failed to overcome the Covid infection.more than 55,000 children affected by Covid have been hospitalized in the US (source CDC), many of them without known pre-existing conditions.
