09 September 2021 They documented the revolt of women demanding the right to work and education and were beaten and detained for hours by Taliban fighters for doing their job.

All this in Kabul. They are two Afghan journalists and their names are Taki Daryabi, 22, Nematullah Naqdi, 28, and they work for the Etilaat (Information Daily) newspaper.

They had to document a protest outside a Kabul police station by women demanding the right to work and education. They said they were picked up and taken to the barracks in the Afghan capital, then punched and beaten with batons, electric cables and whips, also accused of organizing that protest.

"I thought they would kill me," said Naqdi, a photojournalist. As soon as he started taking pictures he was immediately approached by the fighters, they arrested them and confiscated their cell phones. To save his camera he threw it into the crowd. Shortly after the beating, the two were released without explanation.

The Taliban declared protest demonstrations not authorized by the Ministry of Justice illegal. In recent days, dozens of journalists have reported that they have been attacked or detained or that they have not been able to document the demonstrations. Most are Afghan journalists.
