Austria A man confesses to a random murder to go to jail because he was not happy with his life
The body of an
elderly woman dead for more than a year and mummified in a subway by her son
, who wanted to continue collecting social benefits from her, was discovered in
Tyrol
, Austrian police said on Thursday.
"Investigations revealed that this
89-year-old
woman
died in June 2020 and the
66-year-old man
kept his body to continue benefiting from aid," the security forces explained in a statement.
The suspect, who lived with his mother near
Innsbruck
(Austria), admitted during his arrest that he
had frozen the body
to ensure that it would not smell like death and then
"absorbed the body fluids with bandages
.
"
"Then he covered the body with cat litter and finally the body was mummified," agent
Helmut Cufler
, head of the police unit specializing in social benefit fraud
, told the public television station ORF
.
When his brother visited the home and asked him about his mother, who suffered from dementia before she died and had few people other than her children, the suspect replied that she had been admitted to a hospital.
The aid was received through a postal check and when
a new postman asked to see the beneficiary
, her son refused.
This made him suspicious and he reported the facts.
They finally
found the mummy last Saturday
.
The police accuse the suspect of a crime of fraud of State aid and of concealing a corpse.
