The popularity of Emmanuel Macron progressed very slightly in September, to 40% of favorable opinions (+1 point compared to July), while that of his Prime Minister Jean Castex declined to 33% (-2 points), according to the Ipsos barometer for Le Point published Wednesday.

The French dissatisfied with the action of the executive, however, remain in the majority: 53% (-2 points) of negative opinions for that of the Head of State, 58% (+1 point) for that of Jean Castex.

But in this last return before the presidential election of spring 2022, "Emmanuel Macron remains in a much better position than his two predecessors at the same stage of their five-year term: François Hollande benefited from 15% of favorable judgments in September 2016" and Nicolas Sarkozy "of 35% in September 2011 ", notes Ipsos in a press release.

The very slight increase in its popularity in September "is reflected in particular by an improvement among those aged 60 and over (49%, +10 points), offset by a decline in popularity among those under 35 (42%, -6 points). ) ", two opposite tendencies" perhaps to be compared with the impact of the health policy of the government on these two populations ", advances the institute of polls.

In the ranking of political figures, the mayor of Le Havre and former Prime Minister Edouard Philippe remains in the lead, with 47% favorable opinions (-4 points), ahead of the former environmental minister Nicolas Hulot (44%, -2 points ) and the Minister of Culture Roselyne Bachelot, who receives 37% favorable opinions, a level however down 2 points and lower than the proportion of negative opinions on her action (47%, stable).

In this ranking, all the candidates declared for the presidential election subject to the judgment of the polled collect a majority of unfavorable opinions and see their popularity rating, already low, decline between July and September, sometimes drastically.

Marine Le Pen receives 28% positive opinions (-2 points and 63% negative opinions), Xavier Bertrand 27% (-10 points and 49% negative opinions), Valérie Pécresse 25% (-9 points and 52 % negative opinions), Arnaud Montebourg 19% (-1 point and 55% negative opinions), Nicolas Dupont-Aignan 19% (-4 points and 61% negative opinions), Jean-Luc Mélenchon 19% ( - 1 point and 71% negative opinions) and Yannick Jadot 18% (-3 points and 47% negative opinions).

Anne Hidalgo, who is due to declare herself on Sunday, displays 26% favorable opinions (-2 points and 59% negative opinions).

Survey carried out on September 3 and 4 by internet and according to the quota method among 1,000 people aged at least 18 years.

"Margins of error inherent in statistical laws", indicates Ipsos, without providing precise figures.
