Almeida City Council dismisses as "regrettable" the 450 massive bottles this morning: "Freedom is not breaking the rules"
The Madrid City Council has intensified since last night the presence of the Municipal Police in several emblematic squares of the Centro district as a result of the "considerable" increase in young people making bottles in the heart of the capital.
Surveillance will be increased in the Plaza de las Vistillas, Plaza de las Comendadoras, Plaza de Malasaña and Plaza de Pedro Zerolo and during the afternoon and night there will be fixed patrols of the Municipal Police in these enclaves.
The Department of Security makes this decision to verify that in addition to the weekends there are also daily dozens of young people who gather in these places to drink alcohol until dawn.
Likewise, the councilor of the Centro district, José Fernández, today called a coordination meeting with the National Police and the two Municipal Police Units of the district (North Center and South Center) to analyze the increase in young people who drink in the street after a relatively quiet August.
This past weekend there were several incidents and the throwing of objects against municipal police officers when they dissolved a bottle in the Plaza de las Comendadoras, in the University neighborhood.
Also in the Plaza de las Vistillas about 400 young people gathered to drink on Sunday morning without respecting the safety distance.
Neighbors asked the police for help due to the scandal they caused, since several groups listened to loud music coming from small speakers.
Finally, the joint work of the Municipal Police and the National Police managed to clear the square.
According to the residents, the Vistillas area has become in recent weekends a place where many young people gather to drink bottles, since the Police do not usually "patrol this area."
The Municipal Police of Madrid evicted during the weekend several central squares of the capital where bottles were celebrated and imposed 694 fines for alcohol consumption on public roads, 76 more than in the weekend of August 27 to 29.
Specifically, 287 fines were filed on Friday, 289 on Saturday and 118 on Sunday, municipal sources have informed Efe this Monday.
In addition, on Saturday night a entertainment venue in Moncloa was evicted which, with 200 people inside, considerably exceeded the allowed capacity.
