Russian Emergencies Minister dies while trying to save a person

Russia's Minister of Emergency Situations Yevgeny Zenichev was killed while trying to rescue a person during an exercise, the ministry announced Wednesday in a statement sent to Russian children's agencies.


The ministry told TASS that the minister "died tragically while trying to save a person's life" during interministerial exercises in Norilsk to protect the Arctic.


The editor-in-chief of the International Agency "Russia Segodnya" and RT, Margarita Simonyan, said through her account on Twitter, about the details of the tragic death of the head of the Ministry of Emergencies, and said: "He and the worker were standing on the edge.

​​The worker slipped and fell into the water.


She continued: "There were enough eyewitnesses - no one had time to find out what happened, when Zenichev plunged into the water after a man fell and crashed onto a prominent stone."
