North Korea held a late-night military parade at Kim Il-sung Square in Pyongyang to commemorate the 73rd anniversary of the establishment of the regime from 0 am today.

An official from the Joint Chiefs of Staff said, "There is a circumstance that North Korea conducted a military parade, and we are closely following it.

NK News in the US also reported, citing a source, that "the sound of airplanes flying over Pyongyang can be heard" and may be a sign that the military parade is starting.

Earlier, in a satellite image of North Korea released by 38 North, a US media specializing in North Korea, a scene of soldiers practicing in formation near Pyongyang was also captured.

However, it is yet to be confirmed whether Chairman Kim Jong-un will attend and whether new weapons will be unveiled.

North Korea held a late-night military parade for the first time on the anniversary of the founding of the party in October last year, introducing new ICBMs and SLBMs.

This is the third late-night military parade following the 8th Party Congress on January 14 this year.

However, last year was the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Party, which was the anniversary of the 5th and 10th anniversary units that North Korea values. The 76th anniversary of the founding of the Party is not a year to be greatly commemorated, so it is rather unusual to hold a military parade.

Experts view North Korea's presence as an attempt to highlight the international community, especially the United States.

For the time being, there are also observations that it is trying to gain a negotiating advantage through step-by-step pressure through the disclosure of new weapons rather than direct armed demonstrations such as missile launches.
