Angela Merkel has probably never had much fun in election campaigns.

Perhaps even more uncomfortable for them is having to campaign for someone else.

At least her support for Armin Laschet, which the voters could hear, came quite late.

Now she has praised the Union Chancellor candidate in the Bundestag as a man of moderation and moderation who stands for stability and reliability.

Merkel follows the party line and warns of Scholz, who does not rule out cooperation with the left and would be elected chancellor with their help.

Scholz can Merkel: crush by hugging

Will Chancellor Laschet's intervention help? The SPD is on the up, the trend for the CDU and even that for the CSU in Bavaria is pointing downwards. Every wind can turn again. But the Union is running out of time. After all, Laschet not only wages an (election) fight against Scholz and Baerbock, but also against Söder and the Chancellor. In view of the survey figures, the Bavarian Prime Minister can continue to grumble that he would have been the better candidate from the start. And the so-called Merkel voters, who the Chancellor has tied to the Union with her own style over the years, do not automatically become Laschet voters. This partly explains the current surge in votes among the Social Democrats, whose candidate is diligently practicing the diamond.Crushing by hugging - that was actually Merkel's favorite discipline so far.

It is good for the Bundestag when, as on Tuesday, the political direction in this country is passionately discussed in it. Merkel provoked loud protests from the other parties with her speech in support of Laschet. But in parliament, the heart of democracy, such questions of direction must be answered, she replied. Merkel not only endured election campaigns in 16 years, but also ran off most of the disputes in the Bundestag. Hopefully that will change, whoever makes the diamond soon.
