What is described as the toughest abortion law since 1973 came into force last week in the state of Texas in the United States.

Private individuals can report and sue people they believe have helped carry out abortions, and via whistleblower sites you can tip about illegal abortions.

Users on the Tiktok platform and the internet forum Reddit who are critical of the new law have joined forces in a protest action.

In the last week, they have tried to overload the reporting sites with fake tips, Shrek memes and porn.

The initiative has already been praised by many.

- Shrek has a great cultural value on the internet and he is used to conjure up abortion opponents.

Instead of checking out real tips on people who have had an abortion, they can scroll through picture after picture after picture on Shrek porn, says Helle Schunnesson, digital editor of the magazine Elle in SVT's Morgonstudion

Promises to protect the abortion clinics

At the same time, the Justice Department in Washington announces that it does not tolerate any attacks, neither against women who are going to have an abortion or against abortion clinics.

Justice Minister Merrick Garland says it promises to protect both those who want to use "reproductive health services" and those who offer them.

It refers to a federal law from 1994, known as the Face Act, which protects people who visit abortion clinics.

The law also prohibits vandalism against clinics that offer abortion or contraception.

An equally harsh ban has never been enforced in any US state since the Roe v. Wade case, which led to the Supreme Court's ruling that abortion was legal throughout the United States.
